Dodge for a Cause
SAIL's Annual Dodge Ball Tournament
[ALL proceeds go to the designated philanthropy!]
What is Dodge for a Cause?
Dodge for a Cause is SAIL's biggest service event of the year and is held at the beginning of the spring semester. Students from all over Texas A&M's campus are invited to participate in this dodge ball tournament where all the proceeds directly benefit our philanthropy.
What Roles Do SAIL's Sophomores Play in this Event?
Sophomores in the Service committee are directly responsible for Dodge and determining SAIL's philanthropy for the school year. Planning this event also includes choosing a theme, reserving courts at the Rec., finding halftime entertainment, and coordinating with local businesses to serve as sponsors. In addition to sponsors and the dodge ball tournament itself, SAIL holds a silent auction among its members to support our philanthropy where we auction off everything from old apparel to lunch dates with one another. On the day of the event, our sophomores are the ones running the show as team managers, check-in attendants, and referees to make sure everything goes smoothly!
Where can i sign up?
Look for Dodge for a Cause Banners on campus around January or February, then come back here to register!
Every year SAIL allows our new group of sophomores to select a philanthropy of their choice to support during their time in SAIL. This allows our members to directly contribute to a cause they are passionate about as an organization. The following organizations are our most recent philanthropies.
Living water international '16-'17
Living Water International is a faith-based non-profit organization based out of Houston, Texas that helps communities in developing countries to create sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programs in response to the global water crisis. It was established in 1990 and currently operates in 21 countries. As of 2013, the organization had completed more than 14,100 water projects which included drilling new water wells, harvesting water, and the rehabilitation of non-working wells to achieve it's goal. SAIL is glad to have helped this organization as our philanthropy for the 2016-2017 school year.
J.J.'s Hello '17-'19
The mission statement of this organization is "to prevent youth suicide, promote mental health awareness, and create a message of hope for pre-teens, teens and young adults in our community."
JJs Hello assists schools and community organizations in creating, developing, facilitating, funding, and executing programs, activities, workshops, and other events designed to help educate parents, teachers, children, school administrators and other members of the community about the causes, signs, and how to prevent youth suicide. J.J.'s Hello has been SAIL's philanthropy for the past two years during the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 school year.
